Provider Training Resources

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) EIDBI team is planning a variety of training opportunities and events for 2023. Topics include, navigating service systems, training on the EIDBI benefit and other resources. Trainings and events are subject to change throughout the year. Watch for monthly eList announcements from DHS and take advantage of the following opportunities:

• The Minnesota Autism Resource Portal’s Training and events webpage includes descriptions of trainings and events. All events and trainings are posted on the MN Autism Resource Portal calendar, including who should attend.
• Minnesota Department of Human Services EIDBI Policy office hours will be held the third Tuesday of every month. Policy office hours are for current EIDBI providers who have questions about EIDBI policies and procedures. Email asd.dhs@state.mn.us each month to obtain a registration link.
• Minnesota Department of Human Services EIDBI Clinical office hours will be held the third Thursday of every month. Clinical office hours are for current EIDBI providers who have clinical questions related to EIDBI services. Email asd.dhs@state.mn.us each month to obtain a registration link.
• EIDBI Billing Training will occur every two months. Visit the EIDBI Resources and MN–ITS Training webpage to find registration and more information.
• A series of clinical trainings will be held in 2023 for Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) providers and other interested provider types. Refer to the following dates, times, topics and learning objectives for each session.
  • Wednesday, January 18, 2023, noon to 1 p.m.: Evaluation, treatment planning and care coordination
    • Differentiate between covered and noncovered services for the Comprehensive multi-disciplinary evaluation, treatment plan and coordinated care conference
    • Define the roles and responsibilities of EIDBI providers implementing these services
    • Implement best practice strategies

  • Wednesday, February 22, 2023, noon to 1 p.m.: Discharge and transition planning
    • Discuss process for transferring agencies or providers
    • Review EIDBI discharge form
    • Outline resources available to assist with transition planning

  • Thursday March 23, 2023 noon to 1 p.m.: Positive supports rule and practices
    • Describe prohibited and permitted procedures, health and safety standards
    • Discuss reporting requirements
    • Locate resources on de-escalation strategies and crisis intervention training

  • Tuesday May 9, 2023, noon to 1 p.m.: Observation and Direction vs. Training and Supervision
    • Differentiate between training, observation, and direction and supervision
    • Examine the differences between direct and indirect observation and direction services
    • Apply various training models and approaches

  • Wednesday June 21, 2023, noon to 1 p.m.: Functional behavior assessment
    • Define steps to complete a functional behavior assessment
    • Develop function-based treatment goals
    • Demonstrate process for creating more effective behavior intervention plans

  • Thursday July 27, 2023 noon to 1 p.m.: Family caregiver training and counseling
    • Develop family-centered goals in the treatment plan
    • Review EIDBI Welcome Letter for Caregivers and other resources
    • Build relationships and work collaboratively with families

  • Thursday August 31, 2023 9 to 10 a.m.: Person-centered Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) development
    • Apply a person-centered lens to ITP development and monitoring
    • Prioritize goals based on preferences of the person and family
    • Discuss examples of person-centered, observable and measurable goals

  • Tuesday September 12, 2023, noon to 1 p.m.: Person-centered intervention practices
    • Integrate person-centered practices into treatment planning and implementation
    • Apply proactive strategies and antecedent-based interventions
    • Discuss pairing opportunities and reinforcement

  • Wednesday October 18, 2023, 9 to 10 a.m.: Long-term goal development and implementation
    • Identify the purpose of long-term goals and transition planning
    • Generate person-centered, observable and measureable long-term goals
    • Access resources available to assist with transition planning

  • Wednesday November 8, 2023, noon – 1 p.m.: Coordinating care and collaborating with other professionals
    • Assess the impact of care coordination
    • Identify resources to facilitate collaboration
    • Discuss examples of coordination across service systems

Continuing Education Unit (CEU) information

Continuing education credits will be offered for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) through the Minnesota Northland Association for Behavior Analysis (MNABA). All courses will be worth one credit unless otherwise noted. Link to access the CEUs is found under the Agenda section of the registration webpage. Certificates of participation will also be offered for others upon request to submit to their licensure or certification boards.
